Testimonials for the RAW & Uncharted on location Fine Art and Architecture Workshops
[...]
"The whole workshop was outstanding, from the first to the last second !
Perfect preparation, exceptional artistic inspirations and great photographic support on location, and all in a very human and pleasant way that met everyone’s needs. And finally with a detailed, very personal discussion of each individual’s pictures afterwards.
It doesn’t get any better than this !"

When I first saw Joel Tjintjelaar's work, I knew that I wanted to be able to reach his level of artistry.
The thought of spending more than 4 days with someone I had never met was a little unsettling.
Fortunately, Joel proved to be an excellent, patient teacher with great knowledge and experience. He really wants the students to succeed and has a great sense of humour which makes the workshops a fun and exciting experience.
You will never get bored! His teaching approach is well structured and extremely effective.
The workshop was very well organised, also thanks to Tobi (co-organiser on location).
Thanks again for the flexible and smooth organisation!
Joel has in-depth expertise and is passionate and dedicated to ensuring that his students understand the whole workflow and he made it clear that the photographic art benefits enormously from an understanding of the art of processing.
The camera only provides the image data - but the photographer creates the art.
He does not rely on ready-made recipes or ultimate Photoshop tricks, as many photography books promise. Instead, he focuses on teaching several very specific techniques for precisely enhancing the entire photo or its parts and skilfully combining all these techniques with each other.
He is very patient and explains why he uses a tool and in what order it should be used. He believes that it is crucial to understand the reason for doing things, not just doing them.
Each step is designed to create a high quality piece of art - which is a rare skill in today's digital photography and ‘Instagram’ world.
For him, the image files straight from the camera are simply the raw material from which he then carves the final photo with many precise steps, just like a sculptor carves his block of marble.
To compare it once again with a painting: The camera and Photoshop are like the painter's brushes, colours and canvas - but just using tools like brushes, colours and canvas won't make someone paint like Rembrandt!
It requires a repertoire of techniques, skill and vision, which Joel teaches you as key parts of his fine art photography workshop. He teaches the artistic approach to images.
He also encourages the workshop participants to learn from each other as an inspiring community and to benefit from the different points of view.
Joel patiently and comprehensively addressed every question I had to ensure I was fully up to speed and comfortable with every part of the workflow.
But most importantly, Joel leaves you with a genuine enthusiasm for excellence.
His workshop is unique in that it covers the entire workflow, from setting up the camera to the final retouching of the image.
Nothing is left out, which means you have everything you need to do the workflow yourself, with Zoom recordings available at all times as documentation, which is an invaluable resource.
This methodical approach takes time and patience, but offers a fantastic alternative to the popular trend of taking lots of photos quickly.
Joel's methods challenge ambitious photographers to put more effort and creativity into their photography.
The result is a collection of photographs, works of art that you can be proud of.
This has taken my fine art photography and post processing to a new level of quality and has improved the aesthetics of my photography immensely.
Overall, this is the best photography workshop I have ever attended.

I attended Joel's recent workshop in Berlin. If your interested in Fine Art black and white architecture photography this is for you.
Joel encourages a collaborative approach where the workshop group shares with each other and expands your ideas. Also followed up with expansive post workshop Zoom calls to see how the post processing went.

I attended a four day workshop with Joel in Berlin. It was a great experience. Joel is a great artist and a very dedicated teacher. I learned a lot and plan to be part of his next workshop. After being with him on the field my photographic vision has radically changed.
