Barcelona-Madrid 5-Day Architecture Sessions
Decoding Fine Art | Celebrating the Architecture Design | Finding Inspiration Instantly
1 WORKSHOP - 2 CITIES - 3 PHASES - 4 PRINCIPLES - 5 DAYS
After making a comeback after 10 years by conducting a successful workshop in Berlin, Joel Tjintjelaar is ready to raise the bar a bit further again and dig even deeper and wider.
This time, we will host a 5-day Fine-art architectural photography workshop from March 20 to and including March 24, 2025, in two iconic and historic Spanish cities: Barcelona and Madrid. With a 6th 'tag-along non-workshop day'.
After attending this workshop, you will have gained valuable insights into fine art and architectural photography that go far beyond the mainstream teaching topics of most other instructors.
Two cities | one workshop | multiple sessions | priceless experiences
We will start in Barcelona and photograph there for the first 2 days. On the morning of day 3, we will travel together by highspeed train to Madrid (2.5-hr ride) and stay and continue the workshop there. After the official workshop days, you are encouraged to join Joel to explore more in Spain on the non-workshop tag-along day.
The workshop on-location in Spain is first preceded by a 4-hour pre-workshop Zoom session to prepare optimally for Spain. As a Post-workshop there will be 2 processing and Image review Zoom sessions.
Four principles
Apart from the combination of signature technical and in-depth theoretical topics, 4 main features of this workshop will run throughout all sessions:
- The emphasis on the awareness that the unique subjective experience – human consciousness- is the only source of art
- Architectural photography is about celebrating the architectural design and the architect. Fine art is about celebrating and expressing the uniquely subjective experience of the artist – consciousness. Together, as a pair and only as a pair, they form fine art architecture.
- Inspiration through collaboration. Consistently working together, and looking at each other’s work while shooting in the field, is an important way of finding inspiration on the spot. We actively encourage and create the right conditions to enable this.
- Respect towards each other is the default state of mind. We don’t critique each other’s work explicitly and verbally. We do it implicitly through the visual language in our work. That is how the great artists worked and changed art history. That's how we do it too.
Learn more here on the concept of RAW & Uncharted architecture workshop sessions, the lecture topics, activities, and the objectives.
We are not just visiting the ubiquitous landmarks of Barcelona and Madrid, instead, we will have a meaningful mix of architectural structures that carry historical, cultural, or aesthetic meaning to understand and emphasize the importance of an emotional connection with what we wish to photograph and express. In other words, we are not looking for pretty Instagram images, but for structures to connect with emotionally and express ourselves through. Practical information is below.
