The Deep Dive: A 4-Session ONLINE Webinar · Joel Tjintjelaar 4 Sessions · [6–8 Weeks] · Live via Zoom

You don't need to be standing in front of a building to learn how I see one

This isn't a shooting workshop — it's the thinking behind the shooting, distilled. Four in-depth sessions, spread over 6–8 weeks, taking you from technical mastery of processing to the theoretical frameworks — most brand new and novel, built for the book I'm currently writing and exclusively available to on-location workshop participants — that shape every decision I make about an image.

FOUR SESSIONS, ONE PROCESS Craft Processing & masking Perception The decision process Theory New ground from the book Synthesis Your work, reviewed
Each session builds directly on the last.
The Premise

This is not a repeat of From Photographer to Artist, which I conducted nearly 3 years ago. While that program focused on finding your artistic voice, this one draws entirely on the syllabus readings and assignments from the on-location city workshops. 500+ pages compressed to 400+ pages for this webinar. It hands you structural tools and novel methods that didn't exist in a teachable form, here or anywhere else, until now.

What You'll Learn

Four sessions, each building on the last

Have a look at the reading overview and guide here

Session 1

Processing & Masking: The Craft Foundation

A deep, hands-on session in my black-and-white processing and harmonic color workflow — the technical backbone everything else in this webinar builds on.

Session 2

The Artistic Decision Process

Using my own images — and, where possible, images submitted by participants — I'll walk through the actual decisions behind a finished photograph: The harmonic intervals for B&W and color, MPoP, the axial/non-axial framework, the Razorblade Perspective, Learn to Analyze Buildings for fine art photography, the importance of the Tilt-Shift lens. Not just shooting techniques — but a lens for seeing art in life.

Session 3

New Theoretical Ground From the Book

Material developed for my forthcoming book, taught here first: What is Art, Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic Beauty, Moving Away from Reality, Fine Art Principles & Criteria, Finding your Own Voice, and the symbolic and Jungian dimension of fine art image-making.

Session 4

Working Session & Group Critique

Dedicated working time to apply everything from sessions 1–3 directly to your own image, followed by a structured group review and critique to close out the webinar.

Why Online, Why Now

My in-person workshops require a week away from home and travel to wherever we're shooting. I know some photographers want that depth of instruction but can't make the trip — this webinar exists for you. Same level of depth, same direct access to how I think and work, without the flights. From the convenience of your own home.

It's also for a different group entirely: photographers who have attended one of my on-location workshops, where the days are packed with shooting and processing, and there's rarely enough time to actually work through the theory and exercises behind it all. If you left one of those workshops with the practical skills but felt the underlying thinking — the frameworks, the "why" behind the decisions — never quite landed, this is where that gets its proper time.
